I never install codecs anymore, all I need is VLC Player and Daum PotPlayer these have built in codec that play most anything , thats if the file has audio regardless of what kind it is.

@Jeff
get ffdshow
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/
decodes just about everything, efficient and free.

There are really see no need for codecs unless your using some player that depends on them .

Thing is there's never no support for ffdshow
http://sourceforge.net/p/ffdshow-tryout/bugs/ffdshow

No one never answers back no one

VLC , PotPlayer ,Baka MPlayer ,KMPlayer GOM Player and theres more were there's no codec install needed.

I use to install codec back before i knew better .

If you must use codecs you be much better off using a codec pack like Shark007 , KLite or one like that were have forums and stuff to give you support if you have problems .

Back on my old machine , I used Shark007 codec pack for some years with little to no trouble at all with Movie Spot Video Player because I had a crappy PC only Movie Spot Video Player had really low cpu usage .

But on my new PC any player plays x264 with low cpu.

@Truth
being a twat as usual.
First you have no clue about codecs, then you have to find some way to contradict me.

ffdshow is free and reliable and the codec pack you cite ALL INCLUDE FFDSHOW anyway. Moron.

Most all codecs are free except for DIVX PRO and a few more .

Most Codec packs give you and option to use FFDSHOW are not .

Shark now makes 2 kinds of codec packs Stranded witch don't include FFDSHOW And advanced Witch does Include FFDSHOW.

Most every one for some years are using lav filters to replace ffdshow.

Codecs are very hard on your system anyways , I think when you install stuff you really don't need , that makes you a real moron , If a file is going to play at all its going to play in VLC and you don't even have to install it at all , you can go to portable apps and download a portable and not even install it and play any file you want.

There are numbers of free players that don't require codecs installed at all . So whose the moron , I have no need for FFDSHOW installed , PotPlayer will do anything it can do without it and a whole lot more.

By the way I tested this file here.
Metallica Through The Never 2013 720p BluRay x264 AC3 - Ozlem

Audio played fine in VLC , POtPlayer , SMPlayer , MPC and Baka MPlayer and I didn't need to install nothing extra.

The players played fine with there built in codecs.

@Truth

Fist you say don't use codecs. Then you have to contradict me, and say use a different one to what I recommended. Then you go back to saying don't use any codecs.
Make up your fucking mind before you post.
You've made 5 posts here contradicting yourself while trying to prove how smart you are. Now you'll respond with another three in a row, repeating yourself and being a pontificating blowhard asshole again.

Jeff asked what codec to use. I told him. It will work. If he wants to install a whole new player, he can.

You ever here of the saying keep it simple stupid.

You can download VLC and not worry about installing nothing.

You told me i didn't know nothing about codecs when I use to use them for years . I know more than what you think , I use to post software and test it for years.

What I done then and what I do now is 2 different things , I no longer use them because all the players i use have built in codecs.
