Without giving spoilers for those who have yet to see this rubbish, here is a small critique of this travesty.

Firstly the cast leaves a lot to be desired. The actress playing the central character is a poor choice as she could not act her way out of a paper bag. Michelle Yeoh was a goo choice but is not going to be with us long. Pity, as she, the funny faced alien science officer and the helmswoman are the best cast members. Technically the best thing about this is the main titles. They are brilliant. Pity about the rest of the show. The sets are so darkly lit that while trying to read the almost constant subtitles and things, you cannot see what is going on half the time. The direction is faulty. The make-up looks like a first year student's efforts, with the Klingons hardly recognizable as Klingons. There was a small plot point with a certain lighter colored Klingon that could have been explained a whole lot more, or even at all. The SFX (special effects) are much like the Transformer movies, in that you cannot see what is going on, to many details and not enough thought went into scenes and battles in space and the Klingon ships looked nothing like Klingon ships at all. The sets while roomy were too military in conception, and so badly lit that its hard to see anything going on. Just look at The Orville sets to know what should have been done by the Trek designers. The sets on The Orville are nice and clean and well lit and you can actually see the actors. The cast is so blank that there is nothing to like about them, let alone draw one into their story. And so on.

So much work went into this effort, yes you can see they tried, but frankly they just seem to have lost sight of Gene Roddenbury's vision. There really is too many problems for this series to work for me as a Trek fan. Aside from the usual refitting of established history, why do they keep setting these new series in the past, when TNG era has yet to be fully explored. Even Gene knew when to leave well enough alone with his original series, when he came up with The Next Generation. The story is exploring a part of the established history of the Star Trek universe, but they are really going about it wrong. Also the title the series does not apply to the first two episodes as the title Ship is not even introduced. This is a mockery of all the past efforts of many people, just as JJAbram's efforts were. As a SF fan I'll watch this, but under protest. I am disappointed.

lololololol

@BillD - Are you really a Star Trek fan, or you just enjoy watching some Star Trek?! You don't even know why Klingons look the way they do!
I'm a Trek fan. I loved the first two episodes. The only critic I've got is for Sarek's actor: please don't smile.
