Completely agree! XVID should be the last encode since it is the least efficient.

Xvid is probably first because it's faster to encode than XNNN.
The more efficient a codec, the harder the encoder has to work to analyse the input.

And also, everyone can play xVid. As opposed to x265, which only a small minority can play at all.
I play movies with a media player box and it does almost every video format. Except x265.

x265 files play on my 4 year old samsung TV with no problems. You just bought a crappy TV is all.

Anyway, I could buy a new player or convert the files. Or I can do what I do now, and just download files I can play as-is.
I spent several years when I had to convert and burn videos to DVD format. Not too hard, even interesting, but it's so much easier just to use MKV x264.

I'm certainly not going to buy a laptop or media player just to play this format that only a couple of sites are uploading at all..
