108TB?? Wow, thats a lot. May i ask further about how many disks and are they with multiple power supplies, i mean how are they connected?

@reddevil, 9x12TB WD from last year's Black Friday sales (~$190@). All in a single Antec case powered with a Corsair 850RX power supply. I used a couple power splitters and one 4-port expansion card. Actually, there's room and ports for two more drives but they aren't needed here. After a power outage and surge a month or so ago, I also rebuilt my server. 23x12TB drives, all in one really old ugly made-in-usa steel AT server case, powered by an Antec 850 Quattro True Power supply. This is the 5th incarnation of the same box. Initially started with a dozen 100-160GB assorted drives. Then 3TB drives, then 4TB drives, then 8TB drives and now 12TB drives.
I'm pretty sure this will be the last as I can no longer even lift the computer.

The X-media Recode experiment is going well. I have reencoded all my RARBG-x265 movies to date.
~70 min for 720p, ~122 min for 1080p The X-Files (close to real-time). I have not figured out the perfect NR settings (in Handbrake just set for Ultralight-none for 98% of everything, just tweak for those really bad movies). Nor, have I managed to automate batches. But I can't expect to manage a new app in days like the 4+ years it took to get a good handle on HB ;) I have been working with cropping 2:1 ratio movies. Generally the intro and exit credits will show you the minimum screen size you can crop to before playing with the resolution and the resizing algorithm. I have played reducing 1920x800 to actual 720p. That's not a problem with computer playback but I have no idea what pitfalls might await...
Anyways, stay tuned. I'll post any revelations as they are resolved. And as always, post your questions. I'll do my best, and I appreciate you help as well. I imagine Meridian is busy draining a swamp somewhere (setting up hundreds of people to work from home?) ;)

@MenOfMayhem D) I gave away all of them. While they were 3 years old when I pulled them, I have 'Power off drives' set to 40 minutes, so they didn't have a bunch of hours on them.
If this place had PM I'd speak more about this. ;)

@Meridian, @reddevil, or anyone still needing ................................................................. .................................................................
The.Last.Kingdom.S04E05 or E05.720p.WEB.HEVC.x265 ?

@Raada, yea i wish i could ask more in PM but... I have some 4tb's connected with an expansion card as well, maybe will add 4tb or 8tb depending on the budget someday. How many years did your WD drives last? i ask because i have had the worst luck with WD in the past, and so am sticking with Seagate for now.

And regarding The.Last.Kingdom.S04 i got them from PSA (my usual place), but thanks for asking.

Where is meridian though? I hope he's ok and is busy draining a swamp :)

@reddevil, My first hard drive was a Seagate 20MB. Over the decades, Seagate and WD have swapped king of the hill many times. My upgrades were for extra storage not drive failures per se. I think each incarnation had 1 failure. Overall, failures are even between brands.

Hey @Raada 720p x265 10bit should play OK on most low end PCs raw processing power. I can play some 1080p 10bit as long as its not 16:9 AR and I can play back any 1080p 8bit on this on this Older PC .

I most the time don't even bother with 10bit unless they have it in 720p and there is only like 2 sites that have it if I cant find it i just watch x264 .

Most newer PCs have drivers that support Hevc 10bits so it plays back like x264 does .

@reddevil, Yeah, an MFM interface. Had to use DEBUG to (real) low-level format it. I was a late adapter, they started with 5MB, but they were just too expensive (>$1000) plus interface. For perspective, CBM had a 2MB floppy at the time. The dual drive was $1800 in 1982.

@Meridian, @reddevil, one oddity that appears to be different from HB.
The Constant Quality setting appears to be independent of output size. With HB, the setting for 1080p might be 27 or 28 while for 720p 23 or 24, the setting for Xmedia-Encode is 25 give or take 1/2 to 1 for 1080p OR 720p. I've re-done several 1080p video because they didn't meet the target KB/s. It has only been a couple of weeks and this is clearly a preliminary observation.
Another oddity, saving a preset appears to only save video settings. Every time I load 1080pHQ6ch, the audio still shows Stereo. This will hender batch runs if I don't find a way around this.

Dears, speaking about XMedia Recode, my notes are:
* I'm stuck with ver. 3.4.3.6, since the newer ones to not remember some settings when adding several files to the queue
* if you are looking for target KB/s, I think it's better to choose 'ABR' (average bitrate) or '2-pass ABR' instead of 'constant quality'
* batch jobs are extremely easy to set - just 'add to queue' every file/job and press 'encode'

@bld71, With HB, I can drop a folder full of various sizes in it and with two clicks it runs. Videos large than 720 (my setting) are re-encoded to that size maintaining aspect (my setting). Smaller video are left to their original size. For batches, I don't want to add one at a time. That seems like a little thing, but think of adding 100 or more to the batch.
Your mention of new version not correctly saving settings may be part of what I'm seeing. TY. I'm sure they'll fix something that's broken eventually.
NO to ABR. I really do want CQ, but I still use KB/s as a relative measure as to where that quality level falls.

@Raada
You can add 100 files at once (drag & drop in XMR) and select all of them (CTRL+A) to set common settings... and then add all to the queue and press "encode" ;)

@reddevil, I need to acknowledge your post. TY. I have d/l tyricycle and looked at the screenshots. But it may be a while before I can load and play with it.

@reddevil, Installation went without issue but launching is another matter. All I get is an hourglass, which lasts minutes. I tried d/l from videohelp.com but the files matched and 'repairing' yielded an 'Account already exists' ???
I also saw that it requires recent dotnet. I think Win10 already has it by default but couldn't find any evidence in CP Programs and Features, so I d/l dotnet4.8 runtime and attempted to install only to get a message that it was already installed.
Also, at videohelp the only review: https://www.videohelp.com/software/Tricycle#reviews
couldn't get it to run correctly, either. This will have to wait until I have a bit more time or an update comes out. I don't know how a 'stable release' can be put out that doesn't work, but there it is...

@Raada, i have installed Tricylce 2.4.0 from github (videohelp too has the exact same file) and it is running fine on my windows 10. I even ran a test encode with default settings and it took almost same time as handbrake but file size was bigger, maybe i will tinker around the settings when i have time. Maybe there's something wrong with your OS files, try sfc/scannow.

@reddevil, I retried 'Running as Administrator' and I got a Comodo popup asking for permission, once given it is running. Thanks for the input.
