I'm a fan of the first 2 SG TV series, but that's about it.

Video games pretty much killed SG back in the day.

I expected that this web series would suck. I will wait to watch it all in one sitting, if at all.

Starting in 2001 and more so each year, video games increasingly cut into that target market. Before that, the market was large enough to support SG1, BB5, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek TV during that golden era. By the time SGU Stargate Universe came out in 2009, the demand dropped big time.

Now the trend is coming back for more quality Sci-Fi TV, but there's still a lot of competition. As it has been, much Sci-Fi TV is not funded well and gets canceled after 2 seasons or so. Now it looks like some of the focus is on a more mature audience, such as with Altered Carbon and The Expanse. We will see.
