The "scene" has not officially supported avi since 2012 and i guess that there has still been demand for avi.
Most new devices now play x264, & mkv so i suspect demand is waning.
The "scene" now only officially supports mkv as of April this year.

If you really want AVI, just get the MKVs and reencode them yourself. Very easy and you can just queue them up.

Since x264 and x265 in MKVs are more efficient codecs than DIVx used in most AVIs, you get the same quality in half the size. So it takes half the time to download.

A few years ago the only way I had to watch downloads was via DVDs, so I had to convert and burn everything to DVD video. Wasn't hard actually once I worked out a few batch files, but now I have a media player that can play most files as-is (not x265 though). That is really the way to go and they're pretty cheap now.

For conversion software and advice, go to VideoHelp.com and you will get plenty of help. Just don't state or admit you are downloading videos.

Actually, when the only format (an old film, e.g.) available is AVI, I often reencode to MKV, applying some filters to improve the quality if possible. After that it's half the size or less and usually looks better. You can't create lost detail, but you can sharpen a bit or remove some damage, trim off crap around the edges or scale up.
