@Schatz... use an encoder, like megui or handbrake to encode. but if you're having a problem with mkv there's Xvid, x264, among others you can use. but hevc is heavily compressed, and if you encode it to another format you'll probably end up doubling or tripling the size.
The other formats are all available here on this site... or you can try tehparadox kickass

There is always something new on the horizon... But x265 HEVC won´t be widely availble just, yet. Consumer products (standalone, flatscreens etc.) needs to support this ccntainer before anything else. And any new "container" will be driven by demand... and right now there is NO demand.

It will take at least a year or two before - and IF - x265 HEVC will be perfected. Right now there is NO demand for x265...!

x265 is a codec, MKV is the container.
Anyway, I've got a new media player box, it supports a bunch of video formats. But not x265. It's not upgradeable, I don't watch videos on my PC. So I will skip x265 for the foreseeable future.
