For me, ClicknUpload has always been rather slow, with it's ups and downs. Now it's slower than ever for me.

For now, I think Dropapk is much faster than ClicknUpload, thus I no longer use CU much anymore.

Beyond what Raada said, note that file hosts like ClicknUpload can slow download speeds for most any reason, such as in dealing with specific users who block ads and/or who use VPNs, or because they're in a sucky country that they block (e.g. China).

TIP: Use download software that speeds up your downloads and helps keep the DL connection open, and don't DL anymore then 2 files at the same time from the same host.

With the software I use, I get at least twice the DL speeds and the connections stay open most of the time.

As for Mega, it's likely not a profitable option for most sites like RMZ. Also, due to its limitations, I think WeTransfer is a much better alternative than Mega.

Is Mega is blocked in much of the world for hosting pirated files?.. Hmm, I didn't know that.. Hmm..

Regardless, true that IF rightsholders and copyright trolls are successful it COULD spell the end of free downloading for sites like RMZ who depend on profit.. Yet as you know, true P2P/BT file sharing within "The Scene" doesn't explicitly require profit.. In fact, many folks in The Scene still despise sites who profit from their work, yet many others in the BT community have gladly joined in on such profits.. Regardless, safely accessing The Scene via BT for "free", is for the most part no longer a free option for many users, such as in the USA and such, where paying for extra services is required, and continuously seeding swarms is often expected.

Ultimately, I think media pirates will continue and prosper until all related hardware uses DRM that kills it and/or all ISPs effectively block it, but that won't happen any time soon, if ever.. Yet if that does ever happen, then underground hardware and networks will become a big thing, and the cyberpunk age begins.

@MEMBER, no argument. I have to ignore that torrenting exists. I already have 5 strikes and they don't evaporate like driving points. With copyright trolls, they collect everybody's IP and filenames and then see if there's a CR issue and send out the letter. They don't care if you're just trying to watch a show that you've paid DISH for but it rained that day. In old days the CR owners would hire people to look for certain files and report matching IPs. You have to have a good, non-recording VPN to torrent safely.

As for what you said about Google blocking Adsense, I see that ARIO@S-RLS is talking about that issue:

"I JUST HOPE GOOGLE STOPS REJECTING FREE HOST'S ADSENCE ACCOUNTS if they continue we wont have free hosts"

Also, he says he doesn't have time to look around for other free hosts and is no longer happy with DropAPK.

So yup, that's bad news for that free scene, but he also said that about 80% are paying users, so there's still that, if that's true, which i doubt, but whatever.

If and when the free hosts ever die then I'm ready to move to NZB/Usenet and pay for those service, or pay for a BT friendly VPN and seed box if need be.

BTW, AFAIK those 5 strike and 3 strike systems are longer going on, where everyone is at the same risk in BT swarms now, at least in the USA. But IDK, just saying.

I see folks in Mexico can torrent all they want with no worries. Hmm..

Correction to my last post.. ARIO is happy with DropAPK, but they will likely be hit with ad losses soon, and that's not good, yet it could always be worse.

@MEMBER This looks interesting..and not in a good way. I guess you're right. The good thing is he says that every time a free host disappears (like 4down), he adds another one. The question is what will happen when there's no free host left to add? Only time will tell.

Yup, only time will tell, yet it's often fun to speculate with hyped drama and such.

What will happen when there's no free host left to add?

Hmm.. IDK, but it looks like he may close the site or perhaps even sell it? Regardless, if he moves on and still wants to continue with The Scene, I imagine there are other gigs, that may even be better.
On a side note, I know of at least one small site that uses Google to host all their movies. The site is public and the DLs are fast.. My point being, small sites like that are rather off the radar, and will likely keep popping up.
It's when you get big, you and company become a rather easy target.
As you know, when it comes to server and bandwidth costs, it's never really free, thus the advertising and such. Yet that's of little concern to BT and The Sneakernet.
I'm a big fan of The Sneakernet but I'm too plugged-in to venture out into the real world, ha.

Sorry chap; for my protection and yours, I need to keep that one a secret. I can say, it's a known and legit method, and has been mentioned here before, yet it's rather complicated, involves Linux and more, and a security risk.. But more so, as Bruce pointed out, just use JDownloader.. What I implement is questionably not much better than JDownloader in Windows.

The Sneakernet is still used all the time between data centers and such.

In fact, with tape in "cold storage", that's the only way to do it. Much of the worlds most important data is backed up on tape.

If you have a lot of data you want to keep safe, then the the Sneakernet and tape is the best way to go.

You don't even have to buy a tape unit, as there are somewhat affordable services that will transfer drive data to tape, all done through snail mail or Sneakernet.

It's also worth noting that in places where access to the internet is limited, censored or basically non-existent, like Cuba or the North Korea, sneakernet is still the only way to go if one wants to experience American movies/TV or information that isn't state propaganda.

I doubt we'll ever have to resort to that, but if the big companies' anti-piracy crusade continues to be successful, then perhaps the best course of action would be to join one (or possibly more) of those small(ish), closed, invite-only file-sharing communities.
